Compared to others, Raf de Groote started the flute at the relatively late age of 16 and he worked very hard to catch up. As we all know, the tension that goes with working hard can cause some problems and in Raf’s case it was recurring back, neck and shoulder pains as well as frozen shoulder impingement problems. He often suffered from balance problems and hyperventilation on stage. All of these problems led him to want to know more about the body and help himself in his growth as a musician and a teacher.

To that end, Raf has dedicated himself to learning how the body works to make music. He has trained to both be a Licensed Andover Educator and a Level Three Franklin Method Teacher.

Raf has studied with Paul Vanwolleghem, Erik Dequeker, and Susan Milan as well as several other prominent flutists.
