Emily Ka Lei Au

Young Pianist Emily Ka Lei Au is currently a PhD candidate in Music specializing in Performance Practice and Piano Pedagogy at Hong Kong Baptist University where she serves as Teaching Assistant in the Academy of Music. A dedicated teacher, she is committed to promote musician’s health and wellness in her teaching, and has given presentation at numerous international music festivals and conferences on this subject matter.

A sought-after performer with a special interest in collaborative piano on instrumental repertoire and chamber music, she won the 1st place in the piano duo young artist division at the Ohio Music Teacher Association Graves Piano Solo & Ensemble Contest. This achievement has led to frequent engagement as a collaborative pianist and chamber music coach in various concerts and competitions shortly thereafter.

Emily holds bachelor’s and master’s degree in Piano Performance from Wright State University under the tutelage of Dr. Jackson Leung, where she taught Group Piano Class and private lessons to undergraduate student and occasionally substituted lectures in musicianship and music theory class. During her time in the U.S., her talent and dedication were recognized by a series of awards and scholarship including Concerto Aria Competition, Outstanding Graduate Student Award and Provost Scholarship, amongst others. Emily’s major mentors includes Dr. Jackson Leung and Dr. Benita Tse-Leung, Lilik Sutiono, Prof. David Chung, Dr. David Crean, Dr. In-Hong Cha.
