Rachel Ware Carlton, Assistant Professor of Voice and Interim Director of Graduate Music at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, WI, is an award-winning soprano who has performed on both the operatic and concert stage. Rachel has taught vocalists at the collegiate, secondary, and elementary levels. Her articles on vocal pedagogy, private studio management, and other topics have appeared in national publications.
Prior to joining the faculty at Silver Lake College, Rachel taught at Luther College in Decorah, IA and the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities Campus. The courses she taught included Applied Voice, 20th Century Music History, Class Voice, and Introduction to Opera. At Silver Lake College, she teaches Applied Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocal Diction, Vocal Literature, and Opera Workshop.
Rachel conducted a major survey of vocal pedagogues to assess the current use of science and imagery in vocal studios, and published her findings in the Journal of Singing. She has presented these findings at the CMS National Convention, the CMS Great Lakes Regional Conference, the Voice Foundation’s 40th Annual Symposium, and at the Phenomenon of Singing Symposium held in Newfoundland, Canada.
