William Johnston is a violist and Licensed Body Mapping Educator based in Atlanta, GA. Praised for his “richly lyrical tone and expressive playing” (ArtsATL.com), he has performed as a solo and chamber musician across the United States. William is principal violist of The Atlanta Opera and performs regularly with the viola sections of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic, and Sarasota Orchestra.
A devoted teacher, William has presented masterclasses at the Primrose International Viola Festival and numerous colleges and universities. He maintains a private viola studio in Atlanta, and has served as visiting viola faculty at the University of Florida. He is the Program Coordinator and a faculty member of Franklin Pond Chamber Music, where he coaches chamber music and teaches Body Mapping workshops.
William graduated with performance degrees from the Peabody Institute and Rice University, and is the first violist to earn the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He received licensure training in Body Mapping from Jennifer Johnson, and has also worked closely with David Nesmith. In his spare time, William can likely be found applying Body Mapping on the mat at the Aikido Center of Atlanta.
